The Honda Battle of the Bands was created to celebrate, support and recognize the excellence of Black college marching bands and the unique academic experience offered by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Honda annually awards more than $200,000 in grants to participating marching bands during the program period.
Eight bands are chosen to advance to the Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase. The Invitational Showcase features musical performances from these eight HBCU marching bands.
As a company that thrives on innovation, Honda understands the power dreams hold. Dreams guide us and inspire us to move forward. For Honda, it means creating innovative products that enhance mobility and benefit society. We embrace and support those who forge their dreams into a better future. For over 20 years, we’ve had a long-standing commitment to supporting the success and dreams of the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). With initiatives like the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge and Honda Battle of the Bands, we’ve been able to touch more than 120,000 students and award more than $10 million in grants in support of HBCUs. Over the past 13 years, the Honda Battle of the Bands has been committed to supporting the dreams of HBCUs by investing in their music education programs and showcasing their exceptional student musicians. As we continue to prepare these students to “March On!” both on and off the field, we look forward to another Invitational Showcase.

Why aren't all HBCU marching bands listed in the section "The Bands"?
All HBCU marching bands are invited to participate in the 2015-2016 Honda Battle of the Bands program. The schools listed are the bands that have elected to participate this year.
How are the seating arrangements handled? Is it first-come, first-served or do tickets come with assigned seating? Also, what is the best section to sit in to view the competition?
Seats are reserved. Tickets start at $10. We choreograph the show so that everyone has a good view and we make sure that the music, excitement and exhilaration are there for all.
What is required in order for the bands to participate in the competition? Are bands required to perform certain musical pieces, routines, etc.? Is the performance scoring based on points per category?
HBOB is a showcase, not a competition, so there are no particular requirements. Creativity and showmanship are up to each individual band.
Is this Honda event going to be televised?
We won’t be televising the event, but you can check out the HBOB website for clips of your favorite bands along with highlights from the 2016 Invitational Showcase.
How are the eight bands selected?
Four bands are selected through public online voting on our website www.hondabattleofthebands.com. After the top four are determined, the next two bands with the most votes, and which have not participated in the Invitational Showcase on more than two occasions, will be selected. The last two bands will be selected by Honda and Urban Sports.

Everyone who participates in the Honda Battle of the Bands is a winner. The audience benefits from a unique and exciting display of different music and performance styles.
When will HBOB showcase the best high school bands? I think it would be appropriate to let them perform in this event.
The uniqueness of the Honda Battle of the Bands is that it focuses on the various styles and excellence exhibited by the HBCU marching bands. We feel that our production should focus on these colleges.
Is there a DVD of this event?
Unfortunately, there are no plans for a 2016 Honda Battle of the Bands DVD. Video and pictures from the showcase will be available online after January 30, 2016.
