All HBCU marching bands are invited to participate in the 2012-2013 Honda Battle of the Bands program. The schools listed in each conference are the bands that have elected to participate this year.
How are the seating arrangements handled? Is it first-come, first-served or do tickets come with assigned seating? Also, what is the best section to sit in to view the competition?
Seats are reserved. Tickets are $10 for upper bowl seats and $12 for lower bowl seats. We choreograph the show so that everyone has a good view and we make sure that the music, excitement and exhilaration are there for all.
What is required in order for the bands to participate in the competition? Are bands required to perform certain musical pieces, routines, etc.? Is the performance scoring based on points per category?
HBOB is a showcase, not a competition, so there are no particular requirements. Creativity and showmanship are up to each individual band.

How are the bands selected?
The Honda Battle of the Bands program includes two components -- the Celebration Tour, which runs September through November 2012, and the Invitational Showcase on January 26, 2013.
The selection process for the Invitational Showcase is based on a voting process with three levels.
In Voting Level 1, one band is selected at-large:
a. Online Opinion Poll from hondabattleofthebands.com – Band receiving the highest number of fan votes from the online poll
In Voting Level 2, one band from each of the four conferences, plus an independent program, are selected for a total of five bands. These bands are selected in a three-part process:
a. Online Opinion Poll at hondabattleofthebands.com -- 1/3 weight
b. Band Directors’ Votes -- 1/3 weight
c. Presidents’ Votes -- 1/3 weight
Note: Presidents and Band Directors are not permitted to vote for their own institution
In Voting Level 3, American Honda, and Urban Sports selects the two bands based on:
a. Showmanship
b. Musicianship
c. Years of previous participation in the Celebration Tour
Is this Honda event going to be televised?
We won’t be televising the event, but from September to November 2012, you can check out the HBOB website for clips of your favorite bands along with highlights from the 2012 Invitational Showcase.
When will HBOB showcase the best high school bands? I think it would be appropriate to let them perform in this event.
The uniqueness of the Honda Battle of the Bands is that it focuses on the various styles and excellence exhibited by the HBCU marching bands. We feel that our production should focus on colleges.
Is there a DVD of this event?
Unfortunately, there are no plans for a 2013 Honda Battle of the Bands DVD. Video and pictures from the showcase will be available online after January 30, 2013.
