The Marching Tiger Band of Distinction
In the fall semester of 1997, Mr. Sean Daniels had a vision to establish an identity for the band program that would uniquely define its legacy for years to come. As a result, he created the band’s official name, known as the Benedict College Marching Tiger “Band of Distinction.” This identity became official in 1998 (founding year) which included 61 band members. Mr. Herman Jones, Director of Bands and Mr. Ike Bell, Assistant Director, continued the legacy and growth of the Benedict College Band program until 2016.
The Benedict College Band is currently under the leadership of H. Wade Johnson. Mr. Ronald T. Green is the Assistant Director of Bands and Chief Arranger. Assistants in other capacities include: Terique Foster, Percussion Coordinator; Sheree Nelson, Flag Coordinator; Ashley Johnson, Dance Coordinator; Leon Frazier, Logistics Coordinator; Ricardo Payton, Coordinator of Band Activities; Donnell Butler and Kevin Johnson, Media Specialists; and Corin Diggs, the Business Administrator.
Currently, the bands’ membership has grown to over 180 members who include woodwind, brass, percussion and auxiliary. Membership includes music majors and non-music majors. The Benedict College Band program is comprised of the Instrumental Ensemble, Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, Brass, Woodwind and Percussion Ensembles, and the “Marching Tiger Band of Distinction.”
